About the role

The Test Principal (Delivery) is a key role in the Shop Direct Technology Team, it is also a key role in the Business Domain in which you’ll work. It forms part of the QA & Test Community team, reporting to the Head of QA and Test, but taking the lead of delivery of QA & Test in a specific Business Domain. The Test Principal (Delivery) is responsible for all QA & Test activities within the Business Domain they lead. We have four domains, Customer & Commerce, Financial Services, ERP (Logistics, Fulfilment, Buying and Merchandising) and Technology & Data.

As such you’ll need to ensure that the business domain has a test capability that delivers the companies QA & Test Policy and Strategy in an efficient and effective manner and that the test capability is right sized and right skilled for that business domain.

To do this you’ll want to take the lead, working closely with QA & Test colleagues to help us achieve a best in class approach to all aspects of QA & Test.

You’ll need to work collaboratively with peers and teams across that Business Domain to ensure there an efficient and effective delivery capability aligned to the Business Domains priorities and equally this will help you become recognised internally as the QA and test expert for that Business Domain delivery capability, and externally as a QA and test delivery expert.


We’re looking for people who have fantastic experience and expertise in the execution of QA and test activities across medium or large enterprises within a complex IT landscape. Specifically with leadership experience in QA & Test delivery at the heart of that experience.

For our Test Principal role in Delivery it would be beneficial if you have come from a linked domain, so that could include FS, Customer & Commerce, ERP or Technology.

We give our colleagues full ownership in order to build capability, our teams are trusted and want to achieve and realise some great concepts which provides great outcomes but there is also additionally responsibilities, so you’ll need experience of managing budgets, and exercising good fiscal controls with a delivery capability.

This is such a collaborative role so you’ll need extensive experience in engaging senior management across a portfolio of change and that experience must really translate to working with both internal capabilities and third parties.

The role needs to encompass a high-level aptitude in the following skill sets:

o Understanding of technologies used in the business domain, both incumbent and emerging

o Change delivery frameworks utilised in that business domain

o Test methods and processes suitable for different change frameworks

o Testing technologies, both current and emerging

o Communication, negotiation and influencing skills

o People skills
