Shop Direct (the home of & have a great opportunity for a high calibre Planning and Inventory Operations Manager to support us at our new purpose-built, fully automated fulfilment centre at East Midlands Gateway in Derby.

The Planning & Inventory Operations Manager will report into the Senior Planning Manager and will be key to monitoring and reporting on the fulfilment centres inventory. Having ownership of the efficient handling of Shop Direct’s products and supplies is critical for the attainment of business goals.


  • To ensure accurate, timely and effective stock management within the site to ensure a fully accurate and dynamic stock file over a 24/7 timeline
  • To ensure perpetual inventory cycles are managed and monitored through the PI manager
  • Fully optimise the layout and storage of all goods on site through location management
  • Ensuring all direct reports are motivated, competent and trained to carry out their duties
  • Managing performance of all colleagues
  • Managing attendance & resource planning in accordance with departmental budget
  • Maintaining proper employee records for all shift’s colleagues
  • Ensuring all processes and tasks are carried out in accordance to agreed SOPs and are underpinned by sound stock management knowledge
  • Upkeep and maintenance of WMS across shift
  • Devise ways to optimize inventory control procedures
  • Inspect the levels of business supplies and material to identify shortages
  • Ensure product stock is adequate for all distribution channels and can cover direct demand from customers
  • Place orders to replenish stock avoiding insufficiencies or excessive surplus
  • Prepare weekly and monthly finance reports pertaining to the stock holding and stock loss

  • Knowledge of stock management within WMS
  • Good understanding of fundamental stock management principles


  • Proven experience as inventory/stock manager in an automated site, e-comm fashion site or similar position. Knowledge of working with KNAPP automation is desirable
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods
  • Working knowledge of inventory management software (e.g. ERP)
  • Ability to accurately track inventory and create reports
